One of the challenges with photography is using your environment to your advantage, despite wherever you are. An incredible learning experience I had was taking a photography class at the local community college. Not only did it allow me to learn some technical aspects of portraiture, it gave me the opportunity to develop my art and learn from the incredible work of other photographers.
This is a portrait of Laura, a businesswoman. She was a volunteer model for the photography class who also happened to need new headshots. Although she gets camera shy (like most people), I was thrilled to have talked with her and made her feel comfortable and at ease.
As for the environment: Cuesta College parking lot! There was a small area that had some trees nearby the classroom.
